About this role

Key Responsibilities

Dispense Prescriptions & Counsel Patients

  • Dispenses medications and related supplies, according to physicians' prescriptions.
  • Checks for drug interactions. Ensures that different treatments are compatible. Coordinates with the physician to adjust drug dosage or change prescription in case of a negative drug interaction.
  • Counsels patients regarding appropriate use of medicines. Ensures that the medicines are correctly labelled.
  • Provides information and advice about drugs, their correct dosage, and proper storage. Shares tips on how to minimize side effects while maximizing benefits. Attends to the patient's concerns. Informs them about the expected rate of recovery.
  • Suggests non-prescription remedies to fasten healing and /or avoid getting sick by sharing advice on taking health supplements such as vitamins, using herbal and natural health products, exercising and maintaining a good diet.
  • Recommends the use of supportive non-medicinal products / medical equipment and/or healthcare supplies. Promotes Over-the-counter products.
  • Advises patients on the treatment of minor ailments. Suggest suitable OTC medications.
  • Offers health promotion and sickness prevention activities such as blood pressure and cholesterol monitoring, diabetes screening, smoking cessation assistance, training people to use blood pressure and diabetes monitors, etc.
  • Arranges the delivery of prescription medicines to patients.

Deal With Physicians and Insurance Companies

  • Liaises with the physician to seek clarity on the prescription, if required.
  • Connects with the physician for substitutes in case of non-availability of prescribed product. Offers suitable replacements.
  • Contacts patients’ insurance company to verify insurance coverage prior to dispensing medications. Updates the customer in case some medication isn’t covered.
  • Connects with the respective Insurance providers for claims / claims settlements.

Customer Service

  • Provide exceptional customer by addressing patient inquiries and concerns.
  • Resolve medication related issues, including insurance coverage, billing, and drug interactions.
  • Handle complaints and feedback in a constructive manner to maintain positive customer relationships.

Administrative Tasks

  • Makes sure needed products are stocked and required reports are generated.
  • Maintains records such as pharmacy files, inventories, and registries of narcotics or controlled drugs.
  • Completes operational requirements of the pharmacy, including verifying order entries, maintaining records of controlled substances, charges, and removing expired and/or damaged drugs from the pharmacy’s inventory.

People Management

  • Oversees the work of trainee Pharmacists, Pharma Executives and Interns. Ensures that only the registered pharmacist (self) is dispensing medication to the customer.

Personal Development

  • Keeps up to date with current pharmacy practices, new drugs and their uses.
